This last weekend was our HSLT (high school leadership training). We spent the weekend in Northfield at the collage with almost 200 teens and adult leaders. It was lots of fun, great small group times, way too little sleep and lots of food.

Hubby's brother was here last week from California. We spent the week running around, playing games, And had a family picnic on Sunday. This was the first time the family has been together since Mom's funeral almost 13 years ago. He also worked with Bitty on the tramp and got her doing front flips again.

We had a great time having him here. It was hard to say goodbye when he went home.

The girls are enjoying having time off from school. They are sleeping in, reading and on occasion, working in the yard.

My white roses and pink peonies are blooming and smell wonderful. It is so nice to have blooming flowers in front of the house. I just bought a white peony, so I should have that blooming in a couple years.

Mom and I made soap when we were down there a couple weekends ago to see Grandma and Grandpa. It was lots of fun and now I am getting inpatient to use it. I made another small batch today with coconut milk. It is sitting on the front porch cooling, and will have to get cut up and stored for a while also.

In the knitting corner I made a hat and am working on mittens and scarf that match. I finished the baby blankets that I designed. They turned out really nice. I am working on designing another sweater.

I am also spinning up some really pretty green yarn for a summer shawl, but it will take me a while before it is off the wheel.

We spent the weekend with friends and family at the Wilderness Fellowship Ministry for the Memorial Day Family Fun Weekend. Everyone had a lot of fun and got a little bit sun burnt. I forgot my camera, but Hubby took some pictures with his phone that I will have to get later. There were lots of activities and some Family Olympic games.

We had rain off and on Friday and a storm on Sunday night. The girl’s tent got wet during the storm and the awning for the camper needs some repair.

We came home Monday afternoon after packing up all the wet stuff in the camper. We brought some of our friends’ stuff home in the camper since one of their cars broke down and they had to stuff all five of them (2 large teenagers included) in their car.

I got the laundry done, camper cleaned out , organized, and all the wet stuff dried and put away today.

The girls are almost done with their school work for the year. They have 2 more day left…. J

Bubba got her thumb smashed in the car this morning coming home from church. We heard this little owww … that hurt…. and we knew it had to be bad for her to say something. She had tears running down her face and was holding her thumb, which was dripping blood at this point…. We doctored her up and got her an ice pack and put her in the recliner with some ibuprofen. This time it is her right hand, last time ( about 3 years ago) it was her left. Now she will have matching thumbs with dents in them.

She is now running around playing again… but it got her out of yard work for the day so she is helping me make cookies. Nothing makes an owweee feel better than a warm cookie.

We had a great Mother’s day. Mom and Dad came up for the weekend. We went to the Sheppard’s Harvest Festival again. We took both camera’s and nobody took any pictures of course. We had a great time and the weather was really nice.

I have gotten some spinning done and lots of knitting. I made a baby blanket with the leftover white from the baby dress. Some socks for a friend and some baby socks. I am now working on some mittens and another pair of socks for Christmas. I am starting early on Christmas stuff again this year. I want to get socks and sweaters done for the girls again this year.

Cookies are done and I am heading out to work in the yard and enjoy the sunshine.

This morning Bitty and I are cleaning out the freezer. We have some beef coming and have to make room for it. It is amazing what you can find in the bottom of your freezer. We spent an hour this morning and wile spend some more time on it this afternoon. I think the next few days will be filled with meals that are a surprise. There is always stuff that gets thrown in there with no label and has to be thawed out to find out what it is.

I also spent some time organizing and bleaching my washcloths this morning. They are looking really grey and I hope the bleach will help. If not, they will become rags.

The weather is starting to get really nice and sunny. All the plants are starting to come up. I have 3 little lilac plants that are not coming back and one spirea bush that didn’t come back, but it looks like most of the baby lilacs and other bushes I moved last year made it.

I know it's been awhile since I last logged on. I really didn't mean to be gone this much but somehow I've been able to find all sorts of things to do instead of blogging.

We seem to be busy every night with something. And almost every week has stuff during the school day also.

The days seem so busy and again it is bedtime and my list is not done and I have a pile of laundry on my bed. The good news is I now have gotten a movie on my iPod, so I can do fold cloths while trying watching a mini screen (I have to try to add some fun to the chores). It only took me a week of trying to actually get the movie to work on the iPod. Some days I really hate computers.

We have had a really busy month again.

We had the church couples confence and loved it. Fabulous speeker and fabulous friends.

The girls have been busy with school work, co-op, field trips ( We went up to the MOA for rides), lunch with friends and art classes.

Valentines Day we stayed home and hubby fixed dinner and brought me roses. We had fish, crabcakes, asparagus and carmelized brussel srouts. I made hubby a quilted blanked with some airline blankets we had.

Hubby got the Explorer fixed and running. We bought it before Christmas to fix. It was an auction vehicle that was in an accident. It needed a new backend and some other things. He just got it done yesterday.

I have been keeping my self busy with knitting (mittens and socks), spinning (mom got me some alpaca to make her socks) and Quilting(with the church group and one of my own).

The mittens are for Christmas (if I don’t start now I will never get everything done before Christmas) next year.

It has started snowing again now. The weather last week was low 40’s and now it is 20 again with about 18-20 inches of snow expected with wind. It’s a good thing we get to stay home this morning.

I have been doing some knitting and some sewing, and as always lots of running around with Hubby to Dr's Appointments.

The girls are almost done with the 1st half of the school year. This year has gone by really fast.

Christmas

Christmas was really nice this year. We went to Church on Christmas Eve and then had dinner and opened some presents. Tasha even got something to open. Christmas Day we opened more presents (From Santa) and got ready to go.

We went to Mark and Yvonne's for the day. Every one was there including and extra friend.
The kids went sliding and played in the snow and the adults cooked and talked.
We ate and played games and stayed until really late.

New Years Eve we went to a friends house for the Sledding party (and food) and then over to another friends house for games (and more food).
New Years day we slept in and watched movies and played games and had pizza.. We went to see the new Narnia movie. It was really good and the girls loved it of course.

I also figured out why I don't post very often. This little post has taken me way too long to get done. Every time I add a picture I have to rearrange everything again and Getting pictures on here is a pain in the bum.....The photos from my phone turn out blurry and sideways, so that doesn't work either.
This year I will try to post more, but I will have to try to figure out an easier way to get photo's on here.

a mini vacation

Last weekend the girls and I took some time off and went down to Mom and Dad’s for a mini vacation. We had a lot of fun and spent Saturday hanging out with my aunt and cousin and some other ladies for stitches. The also girls got to hang out with their cousin for the day.

Sunday was lunch with the cousins and then home again. We don’t get to see them as much as I would like to. It was a nice relaxing weekend.

Tuesday was co-op and 4-h for the girls and Dr appointments for hubby.

Yesterday I took part of the morning off and played with some wool for awhile. I washed, dyed and spun some stuff. I haven’t had much time this year for playing with wool and really like to when I can.

Today is Veterans Day and the girls are busy trying to get their school work done for the week and the end of first quarter , they have tomorrow off.

We will probably go out for ice-cream tomorrow if it is nice out.

My Uncle Chuck died today of a heart attack in Ardmore, Ok.

10 Weeks.
Saturday was 10 week since hubby's surgery. He is doing much better. He loves to go outside for walks and to work in the yard when it is nice out. His balance is still off a bit, but is getting better. The right side of his face still has most of the muscle paralysis. His scar is healing nicely and he has even had another hair cut.
He had his surgery on his eye on Wednesday to put the weight in his eyelid to help close his eye. The surgery went well, there was a lot of swelling in the eye and some pain on the eyelid, and he is almost recovered from it.
His next surgery is on Friday for his wrist. He has a prosthetic wrist, It has been 10 years since he had the original done and it has worn out and needs to be replaced. He will be in the hospital (U of M again) for up to 6 day again this time.

I have been doing some spinning some stuff for Mom, and knitting some hats for charity.
This weekend we went to the Sheppard's Harvest Wool and Sheep festival. Mom and Dad came up for the weekend and went with us. We had a lot of fun and Hubby and the girls bought me some great roving for Mother's Day. ..

The girls are finishing some of their school subjects. They are getting close to being done for the year.

Last weekend was the Jr High retreat at Big Sandy's Camp. This was Bitty's third year and my first year as a leader. It was very loud. We had 2 buses and four cars from both churches. We left at 5, stopped at Wal-mart for dinner and break and got up there at 9:30 Pm. The weekend was great. The kids were very good, I had a small quiet group. The weather was really nice, even with the light rain on Sat morning. Besides the lack of sleep and too much food and candy, every one had a wonderful time.

three weeks

It’s been three weeks since Ken’s surgery. He is doing very well considering he had major surgery and was out for over 15 hours. He still has facial paralysis on the right side and is having trouble with his right eye. He can see out of it, but focusing is hard because it is so blurry since he is not able to blink with that eye.

His pain is still really bad, but we think that his bone is bruised and will take a while to heal

His balance is really good, He really has been enjoying going outside for walks on the nice days, we are going about ¼ mile.

The medicines have settled down, he is on about half of what he came home with and had some extras added for the thrush and the reactions he was having to some of the meds. He still has the Percocet every 6 hours and the oxycodone ever 6 hours. We are still getting up at 4 am for pills, but he has been sleeping better in between.

He has lots of appointment coming up over the next 6 or more weeks; eye, hearing, and facial nerve therapy.

He has been felling good except for the pain and has been going to church, out for pizza with some friends, and running short errands with me.

He has had lots of visitors, flowers and cards also. He really enjoys the visits with family. We wish some of you were closer so you could visit also (those of you in the nice warm south). J

Update

Friday we went in to the clinic to see hubby’s Dr. He has thrush, which is from all the antibiotics that he has been on. His tong and throat are swollen and irritated. He got some more prescriptions pain pills and a new one for the thrush.

Friday night we went to church. It was great seeing friends and everyone was really surprised to see him there so soon.

Saturday we went to the ER, his throat was worse; he didn’t sleep and was having trouble breathing.

The ER Dr had to call the Nero surgeon and get the ok to switch the pain pills and give him some anti inflammatory for the swelling and also put him on Benadryl.

He has been doing much better since, but is having trouble sleeping at night. We went to small group on Sunday night. It was nice to be back and get some good bible study time in.

He had a rough night last night again. He is having trouble sleeping for more than an hour at a time. His head is still really sensitive and he is having a hard time finding a spot that doesn't bother him.

We have a Dr’s appointment with the surgeons on Thursday. Hopefully the staples come out and they will be able to get the pain pills figured out so he can sleep better.

He can tell that his neck and back are out, but can’t go to the chiropractor for at least 3-4 more weeks.

Please continue to pray for complete healing.

Ken is home now. He came home yesterday afternoon. He is doing much better. His facial nerve is still damaged and needs to heal.
Visitors are welcome if you want to come see him. He will be staying put for a while. Email us if you need directions.
We are still asking for prayer for a full recovery.

I finished the olympic socks, after I got done with the toe and picking up the stitches on the sides, the sock was fairly easy. I continued the lace pattern up the front and into the cuff.

I got the blanket blocked, the slippers sewn together, and the yoga socks finished up.

Now I am working on the table cloth again and the teddy bear.

This week will be a busy week getting ready for hubby's surgery.

The Olympic socks are getting bigger. I worked on the first one until I got to the heel and then started the second one, then put them on the needle together. The toe was the worst part. I don’t like short row toes or heels. I am doing square heels on them instead of the short rows,

I will be doing a pair of sock. I have done lots of socks before, but these are not regular sock. This is a totally different way to knit socks. Neither cuff-down nor toe-up! A fun challenge. They start with a lace square and then you do the toe, work the bottom, heal and then cuff.

The surgery will be Febuary 26^th, at the U of M.

Thank you for your prayers. We are doing good. We are resting in God for the surgery and recovery. It will be a long road, but we have lots of friends and family to walk with us. It is great to hear stories of other people who have gone through this.

Hubby and I spent the morning in a meeting and then ran to “Sams” to get candy bars for Bitty. She will be selling candy bars again this year for her church youth group. This afternoon I did some work in the sewing room hemming some of hubbies pants and fixing one of Bubba’s shirts. The sewing room is starting to look more like a room again and less like a dump. One of these days I may have the desk cleaned off enough to do some scrapbooking again.

Bitty is making bars for tonight’s family night at church. The kitchen smells wonderful, maybe I will stay home and eat them all myself.

Happy anniversary

The 14^th was our 15^th anniversary. We have been known to be on vacation for our anniversary since it is the middle of January, but this year we chose to spend a couple hours with the brain surgeons. We got a lot of info about the surgery and recovery. The surgeons are very informative. This is what they do, they take apart people’s heads and put them back together.

We went out to dinner at “Enjoy”, a really nice romantic restaurant and went to see “avatar”. It was a really good movie. The graphics were done really well.

The next 4 weeks will be very busy. Hubby will be trying to get some really good sales people to run the company for him while he is in recovery.

I am very thankful that we are back in Minnesota for this. We have our church family to surround us with help and prayer. We will be scheduling meals through our small group. I will be posting updates and other general stuff here on the blog and on facebook.

I appreciate all the prayers.

Ps. I have still been spinning and still knitting. The yarn is Candy’s blue, she did a wonderful job dying it. I love the color, it would make a beautiful shawl.

My husband has an “Acoustic Neuroma” (a brain tumor).

He will be going in for surgery in February. He will be in the hospital for about 10 days, and off work for 3- 6 months.

I really appreciate your prayers as we deal with yet another challenge in our lives. Besides intervention, healing and recovery and all those wonderful prayers, please pray that God continues to reveal his plan to us, how he is working in our lives and show us the outcome of those works that bring honor and glory to him and that we continue to recognize his blessings through everything.

In October we went on vacation to Rapid City. I took yarn. I had enough for a sweater, I measured and added. I started the sweater. I got 4/5ths done with the sweater. It was beautiful. I was out of yarn. I searched the internet and found no yarn. It was discontinued of course, and mom(who I had borrowed the yarn from) didn’t have any more. I was crushed. The sweater has been sitting in a bag since we got home waiting to be ripped out. I didn’t have the nerve to rip the whole thing out.

I found someone on Ravelry who had some, and she sent me hers. I immediately grabbed my sweater and finished it. I love it, the color, the fit. I think it is already my favorite sweater.

Hubby's Sister and family will be over soon. We always have a wonderful time

We had 9 little girls for pizza and a sleepover. It was a wild and crazy night. I don’t think anybody got much sleep, but everyone had a lot of fun.

Hubby’s birthday is today.

He is one of the greatest men I know. He is a great husband and father, and friend. I love being his friend and wife.

We had his birthday party last night. We had pizza, cake and ice-cream.

We had the fantasy football draft party on Saturday night. It was a lot of fun. We had lots of guys over and way too much food as usual. The girls had a couple of friends over and watched movies.

On Sunday we went to Pepin and joined mom and dad for Laura Ingalls Wilder days. We got to spend the day hanging out with everyone and helped tear down.

Today is hangout day with Hubby.

We were going to do a really light day of school today. We started the morning with some basic Home Ec. (cleaning the kitchen).

But We got out the books I already have and they started most of them. I will get the rest of them ordered this week.

Hubby decided it would be a good idea for them to copy down the prayer from Reverend Dushe to the first meeting of the Continental Congress, so they are now working on that. americanchristianhistoryl

We had a very busy weekend. A couple parties with church friends, a birthday breakfast with one of my BFF’s (our birthdays are only 4 days apart), and some apple picking. We a have 4 –H meeting tonight and Teen group BBQ at church tomorrow night.

Hubby is having the fantasy football draft party on Saturday. I get to clean and organize this week and get ready for the party. I like it when hubby has his friends over, he always helps me clean before and after the parties.

I have been working on the birthday socks for one of the girls’ friends, and some spinning. I dyed some of the wool I picked up for Mom and Candy at the wool festival this spring (they let me keep a little bit). I have blue, pink and peach. I think it is Shetland, but can’t remember, it is very nice to work with.

Yesterday was my Birthday. We had a fabulous day. We went shopping and got some jewelry. Stopped at Sonic for lunch (love their shakes). Came home and did gifts, and went to Olive Garden for dinner.

I got wonderful gifts. The city finished repaving our road (I wish they would have done our driveway also), a new furnace(thanks to Dakota county electric), new flashlights from Dad, a kitchen timer and Hubby’s laptop, and a bunch of fun little stuff from the girls. We watched the Vikings preseason game before bed.

I did get a little bit of spinning and knitting done. I am starting a new pair of socks for a gift for someone. I have another camping hat that is almost done.

It has been a really cool August, We didn’t have any days above 90, the temp last night was 45 degrees. I am hoping that September is a bit warmer. I am not ready for cold weather yet.

This summer has been very busy. I got to babysit a friends puppy for a week. He is very cute and well behaved for a baby. We went camping up north over the 4th of July, spent 10 days at Mom and Dad's working on their house, camping at Zombrota with the church group. This week is Dakota county fair.
The girls each put in two projects this year and both got blue ribbons. They were very excited and we stopped at DQ on the way home to celebrate.
We have the Church annual jubilee this week. We will be over there early to help set up.

I have gotten lots of spinning and knitting done. I made myself a hat on the camping trip up north. the nights were cold and I got tired of having a cold head. I think I am going to have to put some hats in with the camping supplies.

I finished 2 pairs of socks, a scarf that matches my hat, and a sweater for me. I kinda winged it on the sweater. I like the way it turned out, I just need to get some buttons for it.
I am working on another pair of socks now. I am doing braided cables on the front.

I can't figure out why the photos are sideways. I will try to fix it later.

The story of the yarn.
The yarn started out on a sheep as wool. The wool was removed from the sheep at Shalom Hills Farm, where Dad works. The wool was at Mom and Dad’s until I brought it home with me.

The wool was washed and then dyed into thee pretty colors.

The wool was combed and stretched into roving strips (with a little help from Bitty).

The wool was spun on my fabulous spinning wheel. (thanks Mom)

The pretty single was plied with two other single (from some brown roving and grey from a cone) and is now a fabulous three ply.

The yarn now wants to be socks. It is so pretty and soft.

I may want to keep them, but they will probably be for someone who has a birthday coming up soon. (shhhh It’s a secret. )

Lots of finished items, but the pictures will have to be next time.

The girls and hubby made French toast for breakfast before church. We had lunch at home and then went to the mall. I got a manicure, the girls’ idea. We went to the new “ Star Trek” movie and ate way too much popcorn. It was a really good movie. Then for dinner we went to Olive Garden, one of my favorite places. We split a raspberry cheesecake for dessert. Then we came home and I played on the computer for a bit before going to bed. It was a great day.

Mom and my Aunt are with Grandma visiting cousins in S.D. Her phone does not have service there so I only got to talk to her a little bit when she called on Grandma’s phone after dinner.

I finished the pillow cases, one knitted and one sewed. The knitted one is black on one side and purple on the other side. It is really soft and Bitty has claimed it as hers. I am still spinning the white wool.

The dead is alive again.
Avocado trees will die when you move them from Florida to Minnesota. Our avocado's did great in Florida, they lived on the balcony. They both died in February when we came up from Florida.
Notice the dead leaves that go crunch when you touch them.
We tossed one of them out. About a month ago Hubby noticed something one the one avocado that we didn't toss out. It was green stuff on the base of the plant. He put a post-it-note on it so I wouldn't toss that one too, and watered it. Now it is alive and growing. We are truly amazed. I didn't think dead avocado's came back to life. The other amazing thing is our other plant, the royal poinciana. It has never done really well, but died in the move also. It has been sitting in the pot dead since February. This morning Hubby noticed it had green leaves on it now also. I watered it and moved it into the sun. We will see how it does, it is a very picky plant, but there is hope.

I have not been knitting much since I got the spinning wheel. I have been doing a lot of spinning. I will get some pictures of the yarn up soon. I am knitting a Shawl for Jody , a draft stopper for Mom, and a pillow case for me.
School work is going well. Bitty is done with language and is working extra on her math. Bubba is working hard to get her stuff done also so they can play outside in the nice weather.

An Early Easter Present

I got an early Easter present from Mom and Dad. I got a spinning wheel. It is an Ashford traveler. I have been using Mom’s antique spinning wheel for about a year now and wishing for one of my own. I am very excited and already filled a bobbin this weekend and am now working on filling a second bobbin.

I love my Mom and Dad. They are the best.

another busy week

The week just seemed to buzz by again. We start the week with very little on the calendar and it just fills itself with appointments, church activities, lunches, dinners and play days.

Monday night Cindi and I went out for dinner and then went to see the movie premiere of “Duplicity”. It was really good. I will have to see it again, I think I missed some of the story line.

Tuesday was girls day out with shopping and lunch at Pizza hut with friends.

Wednesday was chiropractor, a trip to the Mall of America for lunch, and family night at church.

Thursday I had a massage therapy in the morning.

Friday we took Bitty up to Bloomington for the bus ride up to camp. This year they had about 120 kids and chaperones going up. It is about a 4 hour trip up north. They always stop at wall mart on the way up and have some free time to shop. Last year Bitty bought a card game to play with friends at camp. This year Daddy gave her some extra money to spend on another game.

Friday night was church and then early to bed.

Saturday Bubba and I went for breakfast and shopping at IKEA with friends, then Bubba had a play day with some of her friends over for the day. Hubby and I worked outside trimming trees and enjoying the weather. We let bubba pick our dinner spot and she wanted to go to Old Country Buffet for dinner and then to bed early. She was so tired she couldn’t finish her ice cream. Today we are going to play outside and then go pick up Bitty, they will be back late this afternoon.

We are back online again. We have internet…..

The last two weeks have been really busy with unpacking, lunches, dinners, and coffees with friends. We spent last weekend down at Mom and Dad’s and had a party for Dad’s 65^th birthday. I made him new sweatpants and banana bread. I brought home some new fiber to spin (lama from Bill and some of mom’s brown wool).

I started the February lady’s sweater. Another photo here.

I finished the socks I was working on only to find out they were too small for me, so they will be going to Bubba.

We got about 5 inches of snow last week so hubby was able to get the snowmobile out and play. The snow is starting to melt already though, but march is always a good month for snow.

The wondering nomads have moved again.

We got all packed and ready to go Friday night and made it to Ft. Lauderdale and broke a spring, blew the tire and ruined the rim on one of the trailer tires. We found a hotel, which was difficult because evidently every hotel in the state was booked (Nascar’s Daytona 500 and the International Boat Show in Miami). Who knew they were so popular? We stayed at the Marriott, very nice, but pricey. Hubby and dad went out in the morning to get a new tire and rim and get the spring fixed. The girls and hung out at the hotel and watched some sappy Valentine’s Day movies, then stopped at a thrift store and found bubba a new pair of shoes (her flip flops broke) and a wool sweater(to recycle) on clearance. We got back on the road about 3PM. Less than a 24 hr delay….

The rest of the trip was uneventful. The three of us took turns driving and napping. There were lots of bathroom and gas stops though. We had good weather the whole way. The roads in Ky, Il, and Wi are horrible. When I wasn’t napping or driving, I was trying to knit, but the roads were so bad that it made it difficult to knit, which made me madder about the roads being bad. The girls were good, the puppy was good, the food was bad, but we finally made it home (Minnesota) late Sunday night.

Now we start to unpack and organize again.
